Chameleon Skies

so fixed
and predictable
I’ve become…

for your love
I broke—
shattered—
toiled under
unrelenting suns…

but my tired sky’s
mysteries have faded…

my dawn no longer
quickens your day
my twilight no longer
kindles your nights…

as daylight’s last breath
grows shallow—fades
it is clear…

my world
is not enough
to restore mystery…

when the desirous heart
yearns to roam
beneath chameleon skies…

  1. This piece has so many layers to it — I love the word play — “my dawn no longer/ quickens your day/ my twilight no longer/ kindles your nights” … my favorite stanza. Bravo!

  2. Matt, stunning poem! Wonderful title, beautifully written, I don’t know how deep you had to dig to produce these emotions. My hope is that you have an excellent imagination and have no true associated with your words, but that’s probably wishful thinking on my part. Your imagery is incredible, a difficult topic, yet written with a voice of grace. Very impressive!

    Take care,
