The Attack

Red Riding Hood Picture (2d, fantasy, wolf, kid)

Dire gloom springs from
the well of nowhere
though the sun
warms the air
though birds sing
countenance falls…
dust, haze and grey
void colors of spring
for no obvious reason…

I, like a blithe animal
scampering about
when suddenly
a trap springs…

Ever crushing weight
pulling it to its knees
face to the ground
yet it has no true sense
of what is going on…

The creature just
wants to break free…

Restrained, the struggle
ensues but feels endless
as the sun paints
its way across the sky…

Over deflated hills
evening clouds gather
the sun drops
below the horizon
the creature
sapped of its strength
is so tired
striving to escape
so tired…
yet danger looms—
self preservation
that sixth sense
sets in
escape or die

Little strength remains
yet it grapples
and suddenly
it is free…
the wounded creature
staggers into twilight
back to the comfort
of its family…
if the creature
could ponder
it may reckon
that this was
only a warning…
reckoning may
tell it that there
are far more
nefarious intentions
swirling about
in the void…

because once
the predator
has your scent
it is forever
on your trail…
